Chengcing Lake, originally called Taipei, is a tributary of Tsao Kung River, regulate the irrigation of the surrounding land. In 1952 the Government rebuilt the lake in order to supply water for industrial use. Meanwhile, the Government named it, “The Taipei lake” In 1963, when late President Chiang Kai-shek visited the lake, he changed its name into “Chengcing Lake”.

The lake is surrounded by trees and flowers. The scenery is very beautiful, quiet and attractive. Therefore, in 1960, the Government opened the lake as a sightseeing area and established an agency of tourism to manage and serve all tour affairs. Now it is very famous for its beauty.The total area of water works exceeds three-hundred hectares.The lake occupies one-hundred and three hectares of the total land area. There is a seven-kilometer road-way around the lake. The road-way are eight scenic spots with stone tablets introducing each one. For the purpose of promoting the sightseeing business, there are also some other nearby facilities such as Youth Activities Center for camping, Grand Hotel, GolfClub, Dome Baseball Stadium and Labour Activities Center of Kaohsiung County for big shows, etc. Inside facilities include a Service center at the entrance with an all-over broadcasting system, 25 telephone booths, traveling insurance, and an emergency first aid team.

The Seventh District Management Department of Taiwan Water Supply Corporation takes charge of the sightseeing area. The Department has two functions. As for water supply, it has adopted a scientific management to deal with all the business, such as to develop new water sources, modernize the relevant technique and equipment, for efficient quantity, good quality and service. As for sightseeing, the Department has maintained the quietness, tidiness, nature, and simplicity of the environment with a special design of Chinese traditional architecture.
